Questions on the Subject of
Living Together and Sex Outside of Marriage
With Answers from the Holy Scriptures

SHOW ME WHERE IT SAYS IN THE BIBLE THAT IT'S SINFUL TO LIVE TOGETHER OR ENGAGE IN SEXUAL RELATIONS BEFORE MARRIAGE.
Exodus 20:14 "You shall not commit adultery.
Hebrews 13:4 Marriage should be honored by all, and the marriage bed kept pure, for God will judge the adulterer and all the sexually immoral.
Genesis 2:24 For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and they will become one flesh.
Galatians 5:19 The acts of the sinful nature are obvious: adultery, fornication . . .  Those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.
1 Corinthians 6:9-10 "Fornicators . . . will not inherit the Kingdom of God.
1 Corinthians 6:18-20 Flee from sexual immorality.  All other sins a man commits are outside his body, but he who sins sexually sins against his own body.  Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God?  You are not your own; you were bought at a price.  Therefore honor God with your body.

BUT EVERYBODY'S DOING IT!
Romans 12:2 Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.  Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is–his good, pleasing and perfect will.
1 Thessalonians 4:2-5 For you know what instructions we gave you by the authority of the Lord Jesus.  It is God's will that you should be sanctified: that you should avoid sexual immorality; that each of you should learn to control his own body in a way that is holy and honorable, not in passionate lust like the heathen, who do not know God.
Titus 2:11-14 For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men.  It teaches us to say "No" to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age, while we wait for the blessed hope–the glorious appearing of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ, who gave himself for us to redeem us from all wickedness and to purify for himself a people that are his very own, eager to do what is good.

PASTOR, IT'S THE 21ST CENTURY!  TIMES HAVE CHANGED!
Matthew 5:18-19 I tell you the truth, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished.  Anyone who breaks one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do the same will be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever practices and teaches these commands will be called great in the kingdom of heaven.

WHAT'S THE BIG DEAL ABOUT LIVING-TOGETHER WHEN LOTS OF COUPLES HAVE PRE-MARITAL SEX?
Hebrews 10:26-27 If we deliberately keep on sinning after we have received the knowledge of the truth, no sacrifice for sins is left, but only a fearful expectation of judgment and of raging fire that will consume the enemies of God.
Luke 17:1-2 Jesus said to his disciples: "Things that cause people to sin are bound to come, but woe to that person through whom they come.  It would be better for him to be thrown into the sea with a millstone tied around his neck than for him to cause one of these little ones to sin.

EVEN MY FAMILY AND FRIENDS SAY IT'S JUST FINE WITH THEM IF WE LIVE TOGETHER!
Isaiah 5:20 Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for lights and light for darkness, who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter.
Matthew 10:37 "He who loves father or mother more than Me is not worthy of Me. And he who loves son or daughter more than Me is not worthy of Me.

BUT THIS IS THE ONLY WAY WE CAN MAKE IT FINANCIALLY!
Matthew 6:24–No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other.  You cannot serve God and money.
Matthew 6:33–Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.

I KNOW OF OTHER CHURCHES WHERE THE PASTORS NEVER SAY A THING ABOUT THIS!
2 Timothy 4:3-5 For the time will come when men will not put up with sound doctrine.  Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear.  They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths.  But you, keep your head in all situations, endure hardship, do the work of an evangelist, discharge all the duties of your ministry.
Jeremiah 6:13-15 "From the least to the greatest, all are greedy for gain; prophets and priests alike, all practice deceit.  They dress the wound of my people as though it were not serious.  ‘Peace, peace,' they say, when there is not peace.  Are they ashamed of their loathsome conduct?  No, they have no shame at all; they do not even know how to blush.  So they will fall among the fallen; they will be brought down when I punish them," says the LORD.

IT'S NONE OF THE CHURCH'S BUSINESS ANYWAY!  THE BIBLE SAYS, "JUDGE NOT LEST YOU BE JUDGED."
Matthew 18:15-17 "If your brother sins against you, go and show him his fault, just between the two of you.  If he listens to you, you have won your brother over.  But if he will not listen, take one or two others along, so that ‘every matter may be established by the testimony of two or three witnesses.'  If he refuses to listen to them, tell it to the church; and if he refuses to listen even to the church, treat him as you would a pagan or a tax collector.
1 Timothy 5:20 Those who sin are to be rebuked publicly, so that the others may take warning.
Galatians 6:1-2 Brothers, if someone is caught in a sin, you who are spiritual should restore him gently.  But watch yourself, or you also may be tempted.  Carry each other's burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.
(See also 1 Corinthians 5:1-13)

DON'T YOU HAVE MORE IMPORTANT THINGS TO DO?
Acts 20:28 Keep watch over yourselves and all the flock of which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers.  Be shepherds of the church of God, which he bought with his own blood.
2 Timothy 2:24-26 And the Lord's servant must not quarrel; instead, he must be kind to everyone, able to teach, not resentful.  Those who oppose him he must gently instruct, in the hope that God will grant them repentance leading them to a knowledge of the truth, and that they will come to their senses and escape from the trap of the devil, who has taken them captive to do his will.
2 Timothy 4:1-2 In the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who will judge the living and the dead, and in view of his appearing and his kingdom, I give you this charge: Preach the Word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage–with great patience and careful instruction.

I DON'T CARE WHAT YOU OR THIS CHURCH SAY.  THAT'S ONLY YOUR OPINION!  I'LL JUST GO SOMEWHERE ELSE!
Luke 10:16   Jesus said to His ministers, "He who listens to you listens to me; he who rejects you rejects me; but he who rejects me rejects him who sent me."
Matthew 18:18 "I tell you the truth, whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.

I KNOW IT'S WRONG–AND I'M REALLY SORRY ABOUT IT–BUT THAT'S JUST THE WAY IT WILL HAVE TO BE FOR NOW.
Luke 3:7-8 John said to the crowds coming out to be baptized by him, "You brood of vipers!  Who warned you to flee from the coming wrath?  Produce fruit in keeping with repentance.  And do not begin to say to yourselves, ‘We have Abraham as our father.'  For I tell you that out of these stones God can raise up children for Abraham.
Matthew 7:17-21 Likewise every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit.  A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, and a bad tree cannot bear good fruit.  Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.  Thus, by their fruit you will recognize them.  "Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.

I'M SO SORRY, PASTOR.  CAN GOD EVER FORGIVE ME?
1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, God is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.
Psalms 51:11-13 Do not cast me from your presence or take your Holy Spirit from me.  Restore to me the joy of your salvation and grant me a willing spirit, to sustain me.  Then I will teach transgressors your ways, and sinners will turn back to you.
Luke 15:1-10 Now the tax collectors and "sinners" were all gathering around to hear him.  But the Pharisees and the teachers of the law muttered, "This man welcomes sinners and eats with them."  Then Jesus told them this parable:  "Suppose one of you has a hundred sheep and loses one of them.  Does he not leave the ninety-nine in the open country and go after the lost sheep until he finds it?  And when he finds it, he joyfully puts it on his shoulders and goes home.  Then he calls his friends and neighbors together and says, ‘Rejoice with me; I have found my lost sheep.'  I tell you that in the same way there will be more rejoicing in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who do not need to repent.  "Or suppose a woman has ten silver coins and loses one.  Does she not light a lamp, sweep the house and search carefully until she finds it?  And when she finds it, she calls her friends and neighbors together and says, ‘Rejoice with me; I have found my lost coin.'  In the same way, I tell you, there is rejoicing in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents."
John 8:3-11 The teachers of the law and the Pharisees brought in a woman caught in adultery.  They made her stand before the group and said to Jesus, "Teacher, this woman was caught in the act of adultery.  In the law Moses commanded us to stone such women.  Now what do you say?"  They were using this question as a trap, in order to have a basis for accusing him.  But Jesus bent down and started to write on the ground with his finger.  When they kept on questioning him, he straightened up and said to them, "If any one of you is without sin, let him be the first to throw a stone at her."  Again he stooped down and wrote on the ground.  At this, those who heard began to go away one at a time, the older ones first, until only Jesus was left, with the woman still standing there.  Jesus straightened up and asked her, "Woman, where are they?  Has no one condemned you?"  "No one, sir," she said. "Then neither do I condemn you," Jesus declared.  "Go now and leave your life of sin."
